About Us
2026
The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) was established on November 29, 1999, as a national umbrella body to unite all Local Government Councils across the country and strengthen local government administration within Nigeria’s federal system. Formed in the early years of the Fourth Republic, ALGON was created to provide a collective platform for advocacy, collaboration, and engagement with state and federal authorities on issues affecting grassroots governance. Since its establishment, the association has played a strategic role in promoting local government autonomy, capacity building, and effective service delivery nationwide.
In line with this national vision, the Plateau State Chapter of ALGON was established to coordinate and represent the interests of the 17 Local Government Councils within the state. From its inception, the chapter has served as a forum for cooperation, shared learning, and unified representation among local governments in Plateau State. Through successive leaderships, ALGON Plateau has contributed to strengthening inter-local government relations, advancing grassroots development initiatives, and articulating the collective voice of local governments within the state’s governance framework.
